A You’ve Got Mail-Inspired Surprise Proposal at Riverside Park | NYC Proposal Photographer

For Travis and Jen, their New York City trip was inspired by one of their favorite movies, You’ve Got Mail. The couple traveled to NYC from Washington, DC and planned an Upper West Side tour to visit some of the locations featured in the 1998 quintessential New York City film.

The season, neighborhood, and relaxed atmosphere felt right at home in the world of You’ve Got Mail, making the proposal especially meaningful for a couple who already had a strong connection to the Upper West Side.

Why Propose at Riverside Park?

Riverside Park offers many of the qualities couples love about Central Park while providing a more relaxed Upper West Side atmosphere. It is a great choice for couples who want beautiful greenery and scenic surroundings without the crowds of some of NYC’s more popular proposal locations.

• Beautiful Upper West Side setting

• Peaceful gardens and walking paths

• Less crowded than many NYC proposal locations

• Beautiful early fall scenery

• Authentic New York City atmosphere

A Proposal Inspired by New York City

What made Travis and Jen’s proposal especially memorable was how naturally it fit into their love of New York City. Their You’ve Got Mail-inspired afternoon gave them a reason to explore the Upper West Side together, and Riverside Park provided the perfect backdrop for an unexpected next chapter in their story.

Unlike some of Manhattan’s busiest parks and landmarks, Riverside Park feels like a place where New Yorkers actually spend their days. People walk along the paths, enjoy the gardens, exercise, and take in the neighborhood at their own pace. That everyday NYC atmosphere can make proposal photographs feel particularly authentic.

The Perfect Fall Sunset on The Brooklyn Promenade

I don’t think a more perfect proposal could have been planned, dreamed of, or scripted.

Julien planned to propose at sunset Friday evening on the Brooklyn Heights Promenade. A few minutes before he was planned to arrive he texted me they were running late. It didn’t matter because when he arrive we had the best sunset I had ever seen (this was the night before a whicked Nor’Easter)

Andrew chose the Brooklyn Heights Promenade for his sunset proposal because of the view, quiet atmosphere, and not as hectic / touristy vibe when compared to Brooklyn Bridge Park with Jane’s Carousel. The sun set offered beautiful natural orange light and very special moment on their unforgettable moment.

Planning Your Brooklyn Heights Promenade Proposal

If you're considering proposing at Brooklyn Heights Promenade, a morning session offers some of the best conditions for both the experience and the photographs. The combination of iconic skyline views, peaceful surroundings, and beautiful natural light makes it one of the top proposal locations in New York City.

Luxury Watch Gala in NYC | Corporate Event Photography

A New York City Gala is more than an evening of celebration—it’s an opportunity to bring people together and create a memorable experience for everyone. From the venue and event details to networking, speeches, and candid moments, every part of the evening contributes to the story of the event. As a NYC Corporate Event Photographer, my approach to capturing an event, no matter the size or purpose (gala, fundraiser, award ceremony), is to focus on capturing real and authentic moments (smiles, laughter, hand shaking, and active listening - not people bored on their phones).

I understand the value of my photos. My photos are valuable marketing and PR assets that will exist long after the event is over, and will be shared countless times. Professional event photography can provide content for social media, LinkedIn, websites, press coverage, marketing materials, and future event promotion. Long after the final speech, these photos continue to tell the story of your event, people, and brand.

Photographing the Complete Story

The best event galleries don't just document what happened—they communicate what it felt like to be there. Throughout this specific Manhattan gala, I photographed every aspect of the evening, including:

  • Event signage, branding, décor, vendor setups, and venue details

  • Guests arriving and enjoying the event

  • Both natural candid moments of guests networking and posed group photos

  • Award recipients

  • The overall atmosphere and energy of the gala

Networking, Relationships & Authentic Moments

Guests connecting with colleagues, meeting new people, speaking with industry professionals, and enjoying conversations throughout the evening all help communicate the energy of a successful gala.

Rather than just photographing only posed moments, I focus on capturing these interactions naturally and unobtrusively. These candid photographs provide an authentic look at the people and relationships that make an event memorable.

Planning a corporate or nonprofit event in NYC?

Thoughtful photography ensures every element—from branding to guest interaction—is captured with clarity and intention. Reach out to document your next event with a refined, editorial approach.

An Intimate Evening Proposal at Elizabeth Street Garden

Elizabeth Street Garden offers a charming and intimate setting for a surprise proposal in New York City. The garden features lush greenery, sculptures, winding paths, and a relaxed atmosphere that feels removed from the energy of the surrounding city streets.

Why Propose at Elizabeth Street Garden?

Elizabeth Street Garden offers a unique alternative to some of NYC’s larger and busier proposal locations. Its intimate setting, greenery, and artistic details create a romantic atmosphere that feels personal and distinctive.

• Intimate garden setting

• Beautiful evening atmosphere

• Unique greenery and sculptures

• Relaxed setting for a private proposal

Celebrating With Family After the Proposal

The celebration didn’t end at Elizabeth Street Garden. After the surprise proposal, Alex and his partner joined their family at a restaurant for a party planned in their honor.

Photographing the celebration allowed me to document more than just the proposal itself. From family reactions and hugs to conversations, candid moments, and group photographs, the restaurant portion of the evening captured the excitement of everyone coming together to celebrate the newly engaged couple.

Some of the moments we captured included:

  • Family celebrating the engagement

  • Candid moments throughout the party

Central Park offers countless beautiful settings for a surprise proposal, and having Belvedere Castle in the background creates a particularly memorable New York City backdrop. For Adam’s surprise proposal, the couple stood at a scenic spot along the water with Belvedere Castle visible across the water, creating a beautiful sense of depth and perspective in the photographs.

Why Propose With Belvedere Castle in the Background?

Choosing a proposal spot with Belvedere Castle across the water offers a beautiful combination of scenery, privacy, and classic Central Park character.

• Views across the water toward Belvedere Castle

• Beautiful morning light
