Saturday we were hired to photograph Disney’s celebration of “Christmas in July” featuring the Night Before Christmas. The event was an activation with merchandise, characters, live music, and non-alcoholic drinks. Prior photographing the event, I requested a “shot list” from the client detailing the type of images they were looking for and what specifically we should photograph besides the usual. Event photographers are not always tasked with just photographing posed and candid photos of people. Often we are responsible for photographing the room setup, which will be used for future reference, photos of product, and photos of special VIPs with certain guests or board members. As a professional photographer, I know the types of questions to ask before I even arrive.

Having photographed hundreds of events throughout New York City and beyond, I know what and when I need to photograph. I always arrive early to capture setup photos, as not to get guests / staff in my shots, and to make sure I am ready to go at event start time.
On today’s shoot, I wanted to show off the production team’s attention to detail in the set’s design and the location of the event. I photographed a ton of setup photos and tried as much as possible to feature New York City in each shot. For a photo looking down at the event, I went to the top floor of a nearby building.
