Nadine and Emily's Joint NYC Birthday Party

As an Event Photographer it is my job to photograph happy moments!

As a NYC Event Photographer, I photograph all different types of events from Corporate Events to fundraisers and galas to family parties and birthday parties. Saturday night, I photographed the joint birthday party of two sisters at Elsie Rooftop in Midtown Manhattan, not too far from Times Square.

the list of NYC birthday party venues is endless. picking the perfect space for a birthday party is hard. Sometimes it’s even harder finding a space that will allow a birthday party photographer.

The sisters booked a private space with an outdoor patio at Elsie Rooftop. Unfortunately, we couldn’t fully utilize the rooftop patio throughout the party as the weather did not cooperate. However, we were able to photograph several photos of each girl outside on the patio before the rain and the party started. Elsie Rooftop had great food, music, and an atmosphere everyone could enjoy. For me, as an event photographer, I was able to easily move around and photograph guests without bumping in to people.

Birthday party photographers should photograph posed group photos, candid moments, and everything in between.

The sisters hired me to not only photograph their birthday party, but also to photograph a mini-session of them before their party. As a NYC Birthday Party photographer, I don’t only just photograph the party. I also photograph the details of the party, their guests having a good time, and the birthday person(s). Prior the party, I photographed each sister outside and indoors with some easy poses.

Trisha's Long Island Bridal Shower

You can’t stop a Long Island Bridal Shower Party.

Before the COVID-19 epidemic Trisha was supposed to get married to Adam, and I was supposed to photograph her bridal shower. However, as we all now know, that did not happen and nor did Trisha’s wedding. So, 16 months later, Trisha finally had her bridal shower and I finally got to be her bridal shower photographer.

An event photographer should capture every detail and every moment no matter how small. These little details help tell the story of your event.

As a Bridal Party photographer or even as an engagement party photographer my goal is to capture the story of the moment. For Trisha’s Long Island bridal shower party, her mom went all out with the details, decorations, and games. I made sure to photograph every detail and every moment. From the New Orleans Mardi Gras theme denoting the couples New Orleans ties where they attended and met at at Tulane University to the bride’s Indian background I made sure to photograph it.

Whether on Long Island or in NYC, a Bridal Shower requires the same must have “ingredients”.

Trisha’s friends and family all attended her bridal shower at the North Hills Country Club in Manhasset, NY on Long Island. When photographing her party I made sure to get posed and candid photos of both Trisha, and her guests.

Central Park Picnic - Kraft Center

There is no doubt about it that the post-COVID world is here. NYC is alive and Central Park, New York City’s backyard, is open for business. The Columbia-Barnard Hillel welcomed back current and former students with a Sunday brunch, setup by Perfect Picnic NYC, which was perfectly executed with blankets, lunch, pillows, and drinks. For some of the staff and guests they had not seen one another in 15 months.

Photographing a picnic in the park really made New York City feel alive once again. Guests were hugging one another, sitting closely together, laughing, and finally not wearing masks. I loved photographing open facial expressions, laughter, and all of the visual emotions that make a photograph memorable. As a NYC event photographer it felt great to openly be doing what I love doing, capturing great photos.

Leah's Long Island Bat Mitzvah

A Pandemic Won’t Stop this Bat Mitzvah!

Last week I photographed Leah’s Bat Mitzvah in Bethpage, NY. Her Long Island Bat Mitzvah was different than her cousins, friends, and what she had envisioned thanks to the pandemic. So, Leah and her parents did everything they could to still recognize the important moment and meaning of the day..
While the synagogue was not packed, Leah still had family and a few friends in attendance to celebrate her becoming a bat mitzvah woman, and even some attendees made the event via Zoom!

Capturing a New York Bat Mitzvah

Spring on Long Island, NY, means unpredictable rain, and while the days leading up to Leah’s Bat Mitzvah were looking good, the day of her Bat Mitzvah was a different story. While torrential rain outside meant we couldn’t do family photos in Bethpage Park before the ceremony as planned, I was able to pivot and set up a nice spot in the synagogue. Inside the synagogue, I set up a mini studio with my lights for family photos and photos of Leah.

A Professional Bat Mitzvah Photographer knows what to do

For Bar and Bat Mitzvahs to-be, the ceremony itself can be a little nerve-racking, and the last distraction you need while reading Torah is a loud photographer. Knowing this, I set my camera to “silent shutter” mode and quietly photographed from the back of the synagogue, while still capturing all the important moments! I was conscious not to block the view of guests both physically attending and virtually attending.

After the ceremony was Leah was officially a Bat Mitzvah! And as if to celebrate the occasion, the skies briefly opened up long enough for me to take some nice portraits of her outside with a green nature backdrop.

Afterward, Leah and her family and friends were off to celebrate this great accomplishment!

Congrats Leah!

Hiring a Conference Event Photographer In NYC

How to find a professional Event photographer to photograph your conference.

Hiring a professional conference photographer ensures your event is documented with intent. My role is to capture the who, what, when, where, and why of your conference / event while making every guest look engaged, attentive, and invested—not distracted or buried in their phones. From keynote moments to candid networking, I focus on clean compositions, great lighting, and authentic expressions. The result is a gallery that showcases your brand (think LinkedIn / PR statements) , supports future marketing collateral, and preserves the energy and impact of your event in a way that feels both dynamic and true.

The most common questions/ statements I receive from prospectus customers about hiring a conference photographer are:

  • When do we receive the photos? I need to issue a press release and post on social media ASAP.

    • Same day images | My background is in marketing and I understand the importance of relevance. This is why I always deliver same day highlight images. As a group or individually, these photos answer the 5 Ws of your event. Who, What, Where, Why, and When did your event happen.

  • Can you stage photos with attendees in between the sessions?

    • Yes! Between speakers or sessions is NOT down time. In fact, it is my GO-GO-GO time. I’m always looking for moments to photograph and people to pose. During this time I’m politely asking people to pose in groups and acted engaged. Maybe they’re demoing a product, catching up with someone, or they’re just talking about their new puppy, I make moments look inviting, interesting, and organic.

  • “We need to incorporate branding and logos in to the photos, and be mindful of name tags.”

    • Of course! This is your event and it should be known that this is your event. Your images should include branding and cues easily identifying both your event and your brand. The photos below are from Finastra Universe in New York City, a full day FinTech conference right here in New York City. I was mindful to capture anything with Finastra’s brand (logos and colors) and incorporate it into the story of the day.

“Please don’t photograph people looking bored… We don’t need photos of people looking bored and unengaged at our event.”

This is a common email and talking point. No matter how serious the event is, there are always a few light moments. For example, someone is always guaranteed to crack a joke or do something goofy, and instantly the crowd goes wild. No matter how “instant” these moments are I am ready. As a photographer, I am always hunting for those split second events. I am always ready to photograph smiles and laughs.

And don’t worry, the serious moments will also be captured as well.

Large and Small NYC Events

I photograph events of all sizes and with varying restrictions; no flash, no moving during the presentation, and only photograph the first few minutes. During speeches I can either be a fly on the wall or I can quietly walk around capturing reaction photos and new perspectives of the event. It’s up to you.
