Old Westbury Gardens Proposal Photographer | Nick and Susanna

Proposing on Long Island at Old Westbury Gardens

Transport yourself to another time or perhaps another world, and back again. Old Westbury Gardens, situated just 30 minutes from the heart of Manhattan, is a sliver of what Long Island in the 1920’ was all about; over the top homes and magnificent grounds. Today, the property remains just as beautiful and serves as an escape from the modern world.

As a professional photographer, specializing in photographing proposals and engagements, I’m always asked “Where should I propose”. If you’re on Long Island, I first recommend a place with meaning and then, I recommend a place that is beautiful, intimate and relaxing. For Nick and Susanna, of Queens, NY, the gardens provided it all for their special moment.

Nick perfectly chose a mid October Friday morning knowing the weather would be cool and the garden grounds wouldn’t be busy. Since the grounds were not busy, Nick chose to propose in front of the main home on the big lawn, the most popular spot on the grounds.

How to have your Long Island proposal professionally photographed at Old Westbury Gardens

To start, you’ll need to obtain a permit from Old Westbury Gardens to have the moment professionally photographed. PURCHASE YOUR PROPOSAL PERMIT HERE. The staff at Old Westbury Gardens strictly enforces professional photographers photographing there. They will stop your photographer mid-proposal and ruin him/her from photographing your moment.

Next, think about the time of day you’d like to propose and where on their grounds you’d like to propose. Generally speaking, the most popular places will be the busiest. Although, one perk of hiring a professional photographing with the permit is the garden will provide an assistant close areas off for us. Meaning, people will not be in our photos.

Photographing Carlos and Sabrina's Central Park New York City Proposal

I did not think “New York City Proposal Photographer” was a job option. As a professional photographer in nyc, it is.

What makes each and every proposal assignment unique are the couples, their stories, and how they decide to start the next chapter of their journey together. Sure, each proposal is kind of the same, as it’s always someone getting down on one knee to ask “will you marry me?”. However, all of the moments leading up to that single moment and how they design their proposal is genuinely unique. With every inquiry and every proposal we photograph, we learn so much about about our couples and their stories. It’s what we love about being NYC Proposal Photographers.

Photographing Carlos’s Secret Central Park Proposal

The plan was to go to Central Park for a private picnic with all of the fixings; blanket, wine glasses, picnic basket, food, and one another. The execution was just that and more.

From afar I photographed Carlos and Sabrina entering the area we discussed. The opened their blanket and setup their picnic. Sabrina reached in to the basket for one last item and discovered a hand written card Carlos wrote. As Sabrina read the card Carlos dropped down to one knee behind her. Sabrina looked up from the card and there Carlos was with a ring.

Hampton and Anne-Marie's NYC Brooklyn Rooftop Proposal

It’s no surprise New York is one of the top destinations to propose. Couples travel thousands of miles to make their special moment that much more special. From the iconic Brooklyn Bridge to the peaceful serenity of Central Park to the dazzling lights of Times Square, New York City is truly the most romantic city in the world. It makes our job as NYC Proposal Photographers amazing and easy.

A private nyc rooftop proposal, Amazing.

To date, we’ve photographed hundreds of proposals all throughout New York City, Long Island, Connecticut, and New Jersey. However, one of our favorite types of proposals to photograph is a rooftop proposal. For Hampton, there was no better location to propose than the rooftop of his Williamsburg, Brooklyn apartment terrace with its unobstructed views of all of Manhattan.

How to pick where to propose in NYC?

I always recommend the best place to propose as the one with meaning and significance. For Hampton, besides his awesome view of NYC, his apartment was where the two of them spend the most time together. It’s where they unwind after a long day of work, it’s where they make dinner together, and it’s where they shared their first apartment together.

Secret proposal Photographer, 007.

As a secret proposal photographer, I often don’t actually have to hide. In New York City, every resident and every tourist walks around with a camera. I’m just another guy. However, for a rooftop proposal the element of surprise can be hard, but there are exceptions. Often, I use this cover, “I’m with the building’s marketing team photographing the view. Just ignore me” or I just hide behind furniture.

Manhattan's Newest Food Hall | Professional NYC Corporate Event Photographer

Photographing corporate events is an exciting experience for any NYC Event Photographer, no matter the occasion!

For tonight’s event, we photographed the soft opening of a new food hall for Boston Properties and their Marketing agency partner Bullfrog + BAUM. Our goals were to highlight the space, the vendors, and the guest’s reactions. The new food hall in located on Manhattan’s East side on 51st and Lexington. The space will be open to both the public and the thousands of employees working inside of the newly renovated building.

As Event Photographers it is our goal to photograph the 5 Ws: Who, What, When, Where, and Why of an event.

The 5 W’s, as I was taught in junior high school english, simply ask “What’s the point”. For an event photographer I need to answer the Who, What, When, Where, and Why the event occurred in each of my photos singularly and as a group. It is up to the client, the person hiring me, to decide how they will use our photos to tell a story or multiple stories.

  • Who attended the event?

  • Where was the event?

  • Why was this event important?

  • What was the event about?

  • When did the event occur? (Evening, Day, Fall, Summer)

NYC Professional Headshot at MLB Offices

Finding a NYC Headshot Photographer that works with you.

Today’s assignment was for a longtime client and my alma-mater, Binghamton University. The assignment was to capture fellow alum Seth around his office at the Major League Baseball (MLB) in Manhattan, NY. My goal was to highlight his place of work and his journey to becoming one of the top most successful IT Networking specialist in NYC in to his photos. The images created are to be used alongside a written article, which will be published online and in print, on his personal LinkedIn photo, and elsewhere.

Tips for posing for your professional headshot photo

  • Relax - That’s easier said than done. However, I always “chat it up” with my subject and get to know them. This casual environmental allows the subject to almost forget they are being photographed. Being photographed becomes secondary.

  • Location, Location, Location - The standard flat background is great. However, it does not show off, nor highlight, your individuality. Find a location you know and where you feel comfortable. A photographer’s studio is most likely not that location.

  • Dress like you normal would, plus some. - If you look good, you feel good. If you feel good, you look good. Wear something comfortable because it will make you comfortable, and it’ll show in your photos.

John and May's Weehawken, New Jersey Engagement Party

Dinner, Celebration, and an amazing view of New York City!

John and May’s engagement party celebration was just that, a celebration! Both John and May are Greek, and upon discussing photographing their engagement party, they assured me their party was going to be a party. From their amazing family and friends, to their entertainment, and the view, everything was just perfect.

Photographing their engagement party was a real honor, after we had captured their secret proposal several weeks prior in Manhattan, NY. We are super excited for this great couple.
