Douglaston Architecture Assignment

Recent architecture and interior photography assignment in Douglaston Queens for a long time architect client. On this assignment, I photographed the home as it was nearing completion. The final touches were being worked on (paint, hardware, and cleaning), so the home could be handed over to the homeowners. For this reason, we staged the home props to make it feel homey and inviting.

Points of interests on this residential home shoot were:

  • Kitchen with its dark wood cabinets and contrasting blue center island

  • Natural light

  • Fixture choices throughout the home (kitchen and bathrooms)

Oyster Bay Cove Architecture Photography

Photographing this magnificent home was different from my usual architecture and design photography assignments. Today’s assignment had overcast weather producing a soft light and grey skies. Also different was I just photographed the exterior with it’s new landscaping and exterior touchups.

The home, located in Oyster Bay Cove, was photographed for the architect, Kevin Wolfe Architecture.

Pier 25 Hudson River Park Marriage Proposal - Phil and Baylee

Proposing in New York City with a waterfront view

On any given summer or fall night one of the most perfect places to photograph a secret proposal in NYC is on Pier 25 on Lower Manhattan’s West Side. Along the Hudson River as the sun starts to set a warm light touches everything and everyone in its path to the horizon. On Pier 25, you’ll find unobstructed views of the World Trade Center, Statue of Liberty, and the Jersey City skyline as you watch the sun set.

Congrats Phil and Baylee!

The plan. Every guy has to have a plan on how he is going to propose and how he will have it photographed. Phil’s plan was to get drinks at Pier 25’s Grand Banks on the Hudson River, and then propose. Prior Friday evening, we discussed the location of where he’d pop the question, the pros/cons of each location, and variables. We decided to make final a game time decision that evening based upon how busy the pier was. If the end of the pier was busy we’d move the marriage proposal down the pier to here. If the end of the pier was not busy, Phil would propose just feet away from their table after paying the bill.

With Pier 25 being fairly empty for a beautiful mid September evening (at sunset none the less) we texted one another and confirmed he’d propose at the end of the pier.

Post proposal and candids, I congratulated NYC’s newest engaged couple, and then we did a mini-shoot.

Montauk Beach Family Photographer

I photographed Matt and Lexi’s proposal in Montauk, NY 3 years ago! I can’t believe it’s been 3 years.

Well, 3 years later, I’ve been asked to photograph their whole family back in Montauk. We picked the beach across from their family’s home because it was convenient and because the eastern Long Island location captured the essence of their Montauk summer living.

As a photographer, it was a tough family shoot to photograph because of the strong East to West winds, the sun was still strong, and when working with little kids you never know what you’re going to get. The common misconception with family photos is “Instagram vs Reality”. People only see the best photos. These are the photos with the kids happy and smiling. However, what you don’t see are the crying photos, not looking at the camera photos, and the bloopers.

We tried to have Issac cooperate, but he was not in to having his photo taken. So, plan B was to have Isaac be Isaac, a kid who likes to play in the sand with his toys. I photographed him playing and then had everyone gather around him, and I captured the moment. I then consistently tried to capture more posed and structure photos.

Akram's Lower Manhattan Marriage Proposal

Congrats Akram and Alex! Akram chose 10am Saturday morning to propose to his girlfriend Alex. We spoke about several different locations and agreed upon a location with a view of the New York City skyline. Our options were Long Island City’s Gantry Plaza, Hoboken, and Pier 25 on Manhattan’s West Side. We chose Pier 25 simply because of its convenience and for its multiple views, World Trade Center looking downtown and the Empire State Building looking uptown.
