Malcolm's Afternoon Surprise Proposal at the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir | NYC Proposal Photographer

There are few places in New York City that combine breathtaking skyline views, quiet places to picnic, and a sense of privacy quite like the northern Central Park around the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir. On a early summer afternoon, Malcolm chose this location to ask his girlfriend the BIG QUESTION!

As a NYC proposal photographer, one of my favorite parts of photographing surprise engagements is helping clients create a moment that is genuine, special and fitting to them, and photogenic. Malcolm's Central Park proposal was exactly that.

Afternoon Light Creates Beautiful Proposal Photos

Many clients immediately think of sunrise or sunset when planning engagement photos, but afternoon proposals can be equally photogenic with the right location, especially if you are planning a picnic. The combination of the resevior, trees, and midtown skyline stretching all the way to downtown with the World Trade Center creates a backdrop that feels unmistakably New York.

Post proposal we explored several nearby viewpoints (Gothic Bridge and the Bridal Path), capturing a mix of wide scenic images, romantic close-ups, and candid moments as Malcolm and his fiancée enjoyed their first walk together as an engaged couple.

Why Professional Proposal Photography Matters

A proposal happens once. Having a professional NYC Proposal Photographer not only allows you to document the moment and share it with friends and family, but plan it and execute it as planned. We act as your official planner and can offer recommendations, suggestions, and be a liaison to hold a spot ahead of your arrival. Careful planning also ensures that the surprise remains intact while producing images you'll treasure for a lifetime.

From helping choose the perfect location to coordinating timing, hiding discreetly before the proposal, and guiding couples through relaxed portraits afterward, the goal is to make the entire experience effortless and enjoyable.

RJ's Surprise Proposal at Battery Park | Why Battery Park is One of NYC's Best Proposal Locations

A Quiet Surprise Proposal in Battery Park, New York City

Every proposal is unique, as every couple has their own story. RJ's Saturday afternoon surprise proposal in Battery Park was a perfect reminder that some of New York City's most memorable proposal locations aren't always the busiest ones, nor the most popular (I.e Central Park).

As a New York City surprise proposal photographer, I'm always helping couples find locations that offer incredible views without overwhelming crowds. Privacy is important for such a private, intimate moment. Battery Park continues to be one of my favorite recommendations, especially in the warmer months, because it combines iconic skyline views with a water view, peaceful walkways, and plenty of nearby restaurants to celebrate afterward (great views too).

For RJ's proposal, everything came together perfectly. The weather was beautiful, the area was calm, and the surprise was 100% real. His partner had abosulty 0 idea she was going to be engagement this summer.

Beautifully Maintained and quiet Throughout the Year

Battery Park is one of the cleanest and most well-maintained parts of New York City. Its landscaped gardens, wide walking paths, mature trees, waterfront seating areas, and manicured lawns provide beautiful backgrounds in every season, and don’t forget the views (Statue of Liberty, World Trade Center, Empire State Building). Whether you're proposing during spring blooms, summer sunsets, colorful autumn foliage, or crisp winter afternoons, Battery Park consistently photographs beautifully.

Looking for a Battery Park Proposal Photographer?

If you're planning to propose in New York City and want recognizable skyline views without the crowds, Battery Park is one of the city's hidden gems. From planning the logistics to capturing the moment, I'll help make sure your proposal is beautifully documented while allowing you to stay fully present in the moment.

Your proposal only happens once—let's make it unforgettable.

Brooklyn Bridge Park Proposal Photographer | Jesse’s Surprise Engagement in NYC

If you're planning a surprise proposal in New York City and looking for a location that combines iconic skyline views with a relaxed atmosphere, Brooklyn Bridge Park is one of the best places to propose. With the Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan skyline, and waterfront all within walking distance, it offers countless opportunities for unforgettable proposal photos.

On a beautiful June morning, Jesse proposed to his girlfriend in Brooklyn Bridge Park with the Brooklyn Bridge creating a stunning backdrop behind them. Choosing an early morning proposal helped avoid the crowds, allowing for a more intimate experience and clean, unobstructed photographs.

Capturing the Surprise Proposal

As a NYC proposal photographer, my goal is to document the moment naturally and discreetly. Jesse's proposal was photographed candidly from a distance so the surprise remained genuine and uninterrupted.

After the proposal, we explored several nearby locations for engagement portraits, including:

  • Brooklyn Bridge Park waterfront paths

  • Views of the Manhattan Bridge

  • DUMBO’s cobblestone Brooklyn streets

Planning Your Brooklyn Bridge Park Proposal

If you're considering proposing in Brooklyn Bridge Park, morning sessions are often ideal. The softer light, lighter crowds, and calmer atmosphere help create a more intimate experience and allow for beautiful photographs with the city's most recognizable landmarks.

Where to Propose in the West Village | 5 Proposal Locations We Love

The West Village is a quintessential neighborhood for proposals in New York City because of its iconic “New York look and feel”. Known for its tree-lined streets, historic brownstones, hidden gardens, and charming corners, the neighborhood offers a different experience from the more public and almost cliche proposal destinations like Central Park (42% of 2025 proposals were here) or Brooklyn Bridge Park. Whether you're looking for privacy, greenery, or classic New York architecture, these are our five avorite West Village proposal locations.

Secret Garden at St. Luke in the Fields

Tucked away behind the streets of the West Village, the Secret Garden at St. Luke in the Fields is one of the most private proposal locations in the West Village. Surrounded by seasonal flowers, greenery, quiet benches, and winding garden paths, it offers a peaceful setting that feels completely removed from the city outside the gardens walls.

West 4th Street & 11th Street (Outside Tartine)

The corner of West 4th Street and West 11th Street, outside Tartine, captures everything people love about the West Village. Historic brownstones, tree-lined streets, and classic New York architecture. It's an ideal location for couples looking for a proposal that feels spontaneous on the way to brunch. Make a reservation at Tartine, a natural reason to go to X location at Y time while being dressed nicely. The perfect excuse!

Jefferson Market Garden

Hidden behind the historic Jefferson Market Library, Jefferson Market Garden is a charming proposal locations in the middle of the West Village. The seasonal flowers, brick pathways, and intimate atmosphere make it perfect for couples looking for a garden proposal. I’d say this garden differs from St. Luke as it’s closer to the busier parts of the West Village and it is smaller.

Little Owl

In theory, the show Friends was filmed here! The area feels quiet and is more residential than other areas, while still being steps away from the energy of the neighborhood. Make a brunch reservation at the Little Owl, a natural reason to go to X location at Y time while being dressed nicely.

West 11th Street & Greenwich Avenue

(Aka - the West Village Ivy covered building)

The intersection of West 11th Street and Greenwich Avenue is a social media hidden gem, and yet it has not been overwhelmed by hoards of 20 somethings trying to get their pictures. Plan a dinner reservation nearby or say you saw “this cool spot online”.

One of the reasons the West Village continues to be so popular for proposals is its variety. Within just a few blocks, couples can choose between private gardens, quiet residential streets, and iconic neighborhood landmarks. The best location ultimately depends on the atmosphere you're looking to create and how you’ll get your partner to that spot. Each of these spots offers a uniquely West Village experience that feels both personal and timeless without being crowded.

Where to Propose in DUMBO Brooklyn Bridge Park

When couples ask me about the best places for a Brooklyn Bridge proposal, they're usually looking for three things: iconic views, great photo opportunities, and a location that feels personal. The area surrounding DUMBO and Brooklyn Bridge Park offers all three.

With views of the Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan skyline, East River, and some of New York City's most recognizable landmarks, it's one of the most popular places to plan a proposal. The key is choosing the location that best fits the experience you want to create.

Here are some of my favorite proposal locations throughout DUMBO and Brooklyn Bridge Park.

Jane's Carousel

Located directly along the waterfront, Jane's Carousel combines classic New York charm with incredible views of the Brooklyn Bridge and Lower Manhattan. The glass pavilion surrounding the carousel creates a unique backdrop while the nearby waterfront paths provide countless opportunities for engagement photos after the proposal.

Morning proposals work especially well here due to lighter crowds and softer light. | LOCATION HERE!

Celestine

For couples looking for a proposal that leads directly into a celebration, Celestine is one of the best options in DUMBO. Located underneath the Manhattan Bridge, the restaurant offers waterfront views and a quieter atmosphere than many nearby locations.

Many couples choose to propose nearby and then continue directly to dinner overlooking the East River. The surrounding waterfront paths also provide excellent portrait locations with both the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges visible. | LOCATION HERE!

The River Café

The River Café has become one of the most requested proposal locations in Brooklyn. Situated directly beneath the Brooklyn Bridge, it offers some of the most iconic skyline views in New York City.

The restaurant's garden creates a private atmosphere while still showcasing the bridge and Lower Manhattan skyline. After the proposal, couples can celebrate with dinner while overlooking the East River and city lights.

For anyone considering a Brooklyn Bridge proposal, The River Café remains one of the most timeless options available. | LOCATION HERE!

Brooklyn Heights Promenade

For couples looking for a quieter alternative to a traditional DUMBO proposal, the Brooklyn Heights Promenade offers some of the best views in New York City. The elevated walkway overlooks the Manhattan skyline, Brooklyn Bridge, and East River while providing significantly more space than many waterfront locations below.

Morning proposals tend to be especially peaceful here, while sunset brings dramatic skyline views across Lower Manhattan. It's an excellent option for couples who want iconic scenery without the crowds often found throughout Brooklyn Bridge Park. | LOCATION HERE!

Why DUMBO & Brooklyn Bridge Park Remain So Popular

Few locations in New York City offer the combination of skyline views, waterfront scenery, historic architecture, and iconic landmarks found throughout DUMBO and Brooklyn Bridge Park. Whether you're planning a proposal at Jane's Carousel, a waterfront moment near Celestine, or an elegant proposal at The River Café, the area provides countless possibilities for creating a memorable experience.

Planning Your Brooklyn Bridge Proposal

The best proposal location depends on the experience you're trying to create. Some couples prefer a quieter morning proposal with fewer crowds, while others love the energy of sunset with the Manhattan skyline illuminated behind them.

No matter which location you choose, DUMBO and Brooklyn Bridge Park remain some of the most beautiful places to propose in New York City.
