A Morning Fall Proposal at Belvedere Castle

Belvedere Castle is one of Central Park’s most picturesque spots, especially in the fall. The trees turn warm shades of orange, gold, and red, and the castle’s stone architecture rises above the landscape like something out of a storybook. On a crisp fall morning, with soft light settling over the park, Edward proposed.

Morning in Central Park offers a quiet, gentle atmosphere, and this moment was no exception. With the castle behind them and the park slowly waking up around them, the scene came together perfectly.

Planning and Capturing the Moment

Edward timed his proposal for early morning to take advantage of the soft, flattering light and minimal crowds. The calmness of the castle area allowed the moment to unfold naturally and privately.

After the proposal, we explored the surrounding paths and viewpoints for portraits. The combination of fall foliage, castle stonework, and morning reflections created a beautiful variety of backdrops — from close, intimate shots to wide landscape frames that captured all the color of the season.

Why Belvedere Castle Is a Perfect NYC Proposal Location

Belvedere Castle blends romance, architecture, and nature in a way few places in Central Park can. Mornings here feel especially magical, with open space and dramatic views of both the castle and the fall canopy.

For couples wanting a proposal location that feels iconic yet peaceful, Belvedere Castle offers a unique backdrop that photographs beautifully in any season — but especially in autumn.

A Bright October Family Session at Bethesda Fountain in Central Park

Capturing Timeless Family Memories

What makes a family session worthwhile and special is the way it preserves both the big and little moments—the posed group photo, the kids being goofy kids, and the little moments that are unscripted. Often, it’s not the posed “Look here and smile” photos that are the best photos. It’s the weird, awkward micro-moments that make each family unique. My family photos are a window back in time, reminding you of this unique moment in your children’s lives, whether that’s in 1 month from the session or 1 generation later and beyond.

Why Central Park Is Perfect for Family Photography

Central Park offers something for every family session. At Bethesda Fountain, you’ll find a balance of classic NYC landmarks and natural beauty, making it an ideal backdrop for timeless photos. The Model Boat Sailing Pond offer an elegant Upper East Side look with few crowds. Here is what I value and carefully consider when working with clients to find the right spot for their NYC Central Park Family Photo Session.

  • Plenty of Space for the kids to run around and for us to position ourselves without people around us / behind us in our photos.

  • Iconic Views: This is a NYC Family Photo Session. Let’s make that known in your photos, whether it’s subtle or clearly evident.

  • Seasonality: If it’s the fall, let’s show off the foliage. If it’s the Spring let’s find the Cherry Blossoms.

Shawn and Dusty Springtime Central Park Marriage Proposal

How to find and plan a Central Park NY proposal

Shawn reached out to Jonathan Heisler Photography about a month before he and his partner, Dusty, would travel from Colorado to visit New York City. Since it was their first time visiting NYC, for both of them, Shawn needed a well-versed proposal photographer to help plan and photograph the moment.

Does the perfect spot to propose also make great proposal photos?

Knowing that Shawn wanted a quiet spot that still had the essence of NYC, we recommended a private spot in Central Park with a view of the manhattan skyline behind them. Supplying Shawn with reference photos of prior proposals and engagement sessions he had a very good idea of where he’d like to pop the question.

Photographing the planned proposal

On the day of the proposal, I communicated with Shawn to let him know where I’d be hiding and that I had arrived, and was in position before he arrived. Both Jonathan and I, arrive at least 30 minutes before the big moment. As Shawn and Dusty walked through Central Park and approached the agreed upon spot I snapped away. Then, Shawn got down on one knee and asked “Will you marry me?”

Dusty said Yes!

Afterward the big moment and introducing myself, we walked through Central Park, photographing a mini-engagement for the two of them. We picked out a bunch of different and beautiful backgrounds throughout the park, all iconic and unique to New York.
Congrats Dusty and Shawn!
