A Daylight Proposal at The Frick Museum on the Upper East Side

The Frick Museum offers a rare kind of proposal setting in New York. Housed inside a historic Upper East Side mansion, it feels quiet, refined, and completely removed from the pace of the city outside. Even in winter, the space stays bright and comfortable thanks to the glass ceiling that fills the main hall with natural daylight.

Nick chose The Frick for its atmosphere. He wanted something elegant but calm — architectural without feeling grand — and the museum’s central hall provided exactly that balance.

Planning and Capturing the Moment

Nick proposed in front of the fountain in the museum’s main hall, where the space opens up, and the light stays consistent throughout the day. A few elements made this location especially well-suited for the proposal:

  • Natural daylight from the glass ceiling, creating soft, even light

  • The central fountain, adding movement and texture without distraction

  • A quiet, controlled environment, ideal for an intimate moment

  • No need for coats or layers, despite the winter outside

  • Clean architectural lines, keeping the focus on the moment itself

About The Frick Collection

The Frick Collection is located in the former residence of Henry Clay Frick and is known for its intimate galleries and European fine art, including works by Vermeer, Rembrandt, and Goya. Unlike larger museums, the Frick feels more like a private home than a public institution.

The central garden court — where Nick proposed — is one of the most distinctive indoor spaces in New York. The fountain, classical sculpture, and glass ceiling make it especially appealing for proposals that rely on natural light and architectural detail.

Why The Frick Works for a Proposal

The Frick offers something that’s hard to find in the city: an indoor setting that still feels open, bright, and relaxed. In colder months, it’s especially practical — couples can stay comfortable while still enjoying beautiful daylight and a refined atmosphere.

For those looking for a proposal that feels elegant, intentional, and quietly memorable, The Frick Museum is an exceptional choice.

Upper East Side Proposal Photographer | East 73rd Street Holiday Lights in NYC

One of the hidden and under rated gems of the Upper East Side during Christmas is the iconic East 73rd Street Christmas lights, a beloved tradition that has quietly transformed this residential block into a winter wonderland for over 20 years. Located between Second and Third Avenues, the street comes alive each year as residents fund and decorate the trees with elegant warm white lights, creating a glowing canopy that feels intimate, romantic, and distinctly New York.

Unlike many holiday displays that disappear after December, the East 73rd Street lights remain illuminated from mid-November well into the new year, often lasting until February. This extended glow makes it an ideal location for an evening proposal, especially for couples seeking a festive atmosphere without the crowds of Midtown. For couples planning an Upper East Side proposal, this softly lit block offers the perfect blend of charm, privacy, and timeless NYC elegance — an unforgettable setting to pop the question under the city lights. Time the moment right the center of the street is perfect.

If you’re planning a holiday proposal in NYC—at Rockefeller Center or anywhere that holds meaning—Jonathan Heisler Photography would be honored to help you craft your moment and capture it beautifully.

David and Elise - Grand Central Park (Manhattan, NY)

New York’s Central Park: A Beautiful Location to propose in any season.

Just because there is snow on the ground and a nip to the air doesn’t mean you can’t propose. In fact, the snow makes the moment that much better for memories and for photos. It’s an ideal and picturesque New York City proposal! In the city that never sleeps love has no season and no reason to stop, a winter Central Park Proposal can be a beautiful way to start the next chapter.

How to Plan a Last-Minute Secret Proposal

David got in touch with me to photograph the big moment just a few days before he wanted to propose. The plan was, he and his now fiancée-to-be, Elise, would be walking Central Park before their date at the MET. Little did Elise know, David had picked the perfect spot in the park to pop the question: Cleopatra's Needle.

Even though the day was closing in fast, David and I coordinated the logistics making sure I would be waiting to capture the moment and Elise’s friends would be waiting nearby to celebrate afterward!

Winter Engagement Photo Shoot Magic:

Hidden in the snow I waited for David and Elise to walk up the stairs to the Needle and when David dropped on one knee I was there to capture it.

She said Yes!

Elise’s friends jumped out with balloons and champagne in hand! After a toast with friends, we walked through Central Park for a mini-engagement session capturing the winter wonderland. We finished up with a few photos on the steps of the MET and then David and Elise were on their way to Celebrate.

Congrats you two!

Joey + Marissa | Upper East Side Proposal NYC

Congrats to New York City’s newest engaged couple, Joey and Marisa!

With the craziness of the Corona Virus going on we were restricted as to where Joey could propose. Not all place would allow a photographer in to their establishment and not all places (restaurants, hotels, venues) could guarantee they’d even be open. Instead, we chose Marissa’s parents beautiful apartment on the Upper East Side for their secret marriage proposal.

I arrived 30 minutes early to photograph detail photos of Joey’s decorations.

As an experienced NYC Proposal Photographer, I appreciate photographing every proposal because each proposal is unique.

Right on time the apartment door opened. Marissa was shocked. Joey led her down the rose and candy lined path. Without any hesitation, and not even in the heart shaped spot he intended to propose in, Marisa said “YES!”
