Editorial Headshots and Portrait Photography in the Heart of New York City
New York City is home to the world's hardest working people and some of the most accomplished individuals. Recently, I had the opportunity to photograph one of those hard working accomplished individuals for Binghamton University’s Alumni magazine. The assignment was to highlight Jaiden, a recent Binghamton University graduate, who launched her career at Adobe's New York office near Times Square.
As a NYC headshot photographer, I regularly work universities, as well companies large and small who need portraits that communicate personality and professionalism. This editorial assignment allowed me to create a series of authentic portraits profiling a young professional's individual story.
Portrait Photography outside of the studio
The photo session took place around Times Square and Midtown Manhattan, an area that offers a lot. This location is certainly not clean or quiet, but it does offer a blend of authentic New York City energy and character. Environmental portraits, not studio headshot sessions, really do differ from a “traditional corporate headshot” taken on a background.
Instead of a standard studio background, we created environmental portraits to showcase individualism. The resulting images tell a story about her environment, her personality, and her life as a young professional in New York City.; fast, bright, positive, and aspirational. I tried several techniques to include energy, excitement, and color in to these photos.
