As a New York City proposal photographer, I love capturing the uniqueness of New York City itself, the couples who live here, and those who visit. The Central Park Model Boat Pond is one of the most romantic and relaxed spots in Manhattan, offering stunning views, peaceful reflections on the water, and a classic New York backdrop that feels timeless in any weather.
Capturing the Moment
I documented everything from wide shots of the pond and surrounding trees to close-up portraits of Henry proposing to Madelyn, and then the celebratory moments that followed. After the proposal, we walked through Central Park for a short portrait session, umbrellas in hand, embracing a quietness that only the rain could bring.

A Rainy Central Park Proposal at the Model Boat Sailing Pond
There’s something magical about a proposal in Central Park, and Henry and Madelyn’s engagement was no exception. On a Wednesday evening at 6:30pm, late in the summer with the rain gently falling over the Model Boat Sailing Pond, Henry got down on one knee and asked Madelyn to marry him.
Why Central Park Works in Any Weather, especially the wet weather…
Most clients worry about rain on the day of their proposal or engagement photos, but the truth is that rainy weather often makes for the most romantic images, in the most private of settings. Central Park becomes quiet, as most tourists and New Yorkers alike do not want to venture outside. You’ll have the park to yourself. Umbrellas add a classic New York City feel. Whether it’s sunshine or rain, the Model Boat Sailing Pond is a perfect proposal location.
