Lizzy and Max's Bomoseen Lake Vermont Wedding

As a NY based wedding photographer, it’s a real treat to photograph a simple Vermont Summer Wedding.

In the southern part of Vermont’s Green Mountains sits Lake Bomoseen Lodge and Taproom. The lodge features an unobstructed view of the pristine undeveloped lake and its simple accommodations. The lake is perfect for paddling and small watercraft; an ideal backdrop for their wedding. For Max and Lizzy’s wedding day, the waters of Lake Bomoseen were almost mirror-like in the morning and throughout the day.

Where to get married in Vermont? … Where to get married period.

Lizzy and Max chose Lake Bomoseen Lodge because it would be a mini-vacation for both of their families and their guests after a year of quarantine. Lizzy’s family travelled from Rochester, NY and Max’s family from Central New Jersey. Neither family would have the “home field advantage” as Lizzy informed me.

A full wedding weekend.

The weekend kicked off lake side with a family barbecue at Lake Bomoseen Lodge and Tap Room on Friday night. Guests arrived from all over the northeast as the smell of BBQ, bonfire, and s’mores filled the air. The next morning, Family and friends gathered early in the morning for water-sports, while the girls started to get ready.

Bomoseen Lake Vermont Wedding Welcome BBQ

What it means to be a NYC Wedding Photographer.

The weekend kicked off lake side with a family barbecue at Lake Bomoseen Lodge and Tap Room on Friday night. Guests arrived from all over the northeast as the smell of BBQ, bonfire, and s’mores filled the air. Just like many wedding weekends, I started photographing before the wedding day. As a NYC Wedding Photographer and destination photographer, I love documenting wedding weekends as much as I love photographing a single wedding day. Photographing the full weekend, starting with the rehearsal dinner tells the whole story of your wedding. The moments outside of your ceremony and reception provide a ton of amazing and fun photos where guests are relaxed, and comfortable in their regular every day clothing.

Why should you have a Wedding Rehearsal Dinner Photographer?

If you google “Wedding Photographers” you’ll most often see “Wedding Rehearsal Dinner Photographer” as well. The best way to describe your search result is the following analogy, “you wouldn’t turn your car on in 0* weather and crank it up to 100mph all at once. Your car needs time to warmup.” Photographing a wedding for a wedding photographer is very similar. A wedding photographer needs some time to get to know everyone and see who is who. This is super helpful on your wedding day as your photographer will already know or have a sense of who the cousins are, the grandparents, siblings, and bridal party.

Kelly and Kenny's Wedding - Hollow Brook Golf Club Westchester, NY Photos

When June arrives the grass is finally bright green and the leaves on the trees sway in the early summer breeze. A beautiful golf course like Hollow Brook Golf Club serves as the perfect place to marry your perfect someone. At a quick glance all you have to do is make a list of their friends and family, wish for the beautiful weather, and mark your calendars.

getting your wedding day started - wedding photography tips

Our day started with getting ready. The couple chose a hotel in Katonah, NY at the foot of the Tappen Zee Bridge. My second photographer (photojournalist) on today’s wedding was also my business partner, Trent. We work so well together in capturing the story of a wedding day; from getting ready to the last dance. We both really enjoyed photographing Kelly and Kenny’s wedding day. Wedding Photography is more than just what you see on the internet or social media. There are the little details, which as wedding photographers we tend to geek out over, and the big moments, but we capture it all with importance. All of these moments and details photographed tell the story of you as a couple.

your wedding day is full of details. Have your wedding photographer capture everything. Most importantly have your wedding photographer know you and know what’s important to you.

Kelly and Kenny both grew up in the Hudson Valley area near the Hollow Brook Golf Club and thus it was the perfect location for their wedding reception. Their ceremony was at St. Barnabas Church in Yonkers, NY, which is also the start of New York City’s St. Patrick Day Parade. The significance of St. Barnabas to both Kelly and Kenny is they are both Irish, and Kenny is part of the NYPD. The NYPD has a large number of Irish-American officers in their rank and file.

Post ceremony and mass, we ventured up the Hudson River to the Peekskill Waterfront for bridal party photos, and several family photos. Then, we made our way to the Hollow Brook. Here it was time to photograph Kelly and Kenny. The light and temperature were perfect to capture wedding day moments.

Our schedule throughout the day ran with the precision of a Swiss made watch. Once our photos were done, Kelly and Kenny enjoyed cocktail hour, and the fun began.

Jacek and Sarah's Wedding at the Triple B Ranch

I was very excited to photograph Jacek and Sarah’s wedding at the Triple B Ranch in Rutherfordton, NC. They chose the Trip B Ranch, an AirBNB, for their super intimate wedding with just their family, so they could all spend the weekend together. The venue located in the mountains of North Carolina not too far from Asheville and Charlotte, provided beautiful venues, amenities, and pre-wedding activities; hiking, shooting clays, a fully stocked game room.

North Carolina spring time wedding photography is not dependent on weather.

When planning a wedding months in advanced you never know what type of weather you’ll get. However, Jacek and Sarah chose perfectly. It was sunny, warm, and not humid at all in western North Carolina for their mid April wedding. The couple, from Upstate New York, thought about selecting a venue close to where they live, but even in mid-April New York can still receive snow. They wanted their wedding to be outside in the open air, and have the reception indoors as the evening cooled down.

wedding photography is about capturing a story. as a wedding photographer it is my job to capture all of the moments and all of the details. no moment, no detail is too small to not photograph. these details make your wedding unique and you as a couple unique.

As their wedding photographer, I was hired to document their wedding day as it unfolded. Sarah, the bride, chose us, Jonathan Heisler Photography, because she did not want being photographed to be the main focus of the day. I respected that and captured things as they happened, and gave instruction when appropriate.

Prior the wedding day, I knew what the couple wanted photographed on their wedding day; the bride getting ready, details, ceremony, family photos, candids, romantic photos of just the couple. Jacek and Sarah’s wedding at the end of COVID, as everyone was finally vaccinated, finally brought us all some normalcy.

Congrats!

Caroline and Seven - Central Park Winter Wedding

Congrats Caroline and Sven!

Caroline and I watched the weather all the way up until the morning of her wedding, but the rain was guaranteed.

I have photographed weddings in every weather scenario possible and I always tell clients the weather, rain or shine, is just a part of the day. The same way flowers and an officiant are part of a wedding day, so is the weather. Throughout the service and the posed photos we pushed through some drizzle and several downpours to find many silver linings. To start Central Park was empty.

Never in my 28 years of living in New York City have I seen Central Park empty when photographing a wedding. Being able to photograph a wedding in Central Park or in New York City without a crowd cutting in front of the photographer is an anomaly. We took full advantage of having the park ourselves with not only the service in Wagner Cove, but family photos on Bow Bridge. Caroline, Sven, and I shut down the bridge. Unreal.

Kris and Alina Wedding - Nassau Inn Princeton, NJ

Alina and Kris knew their wedding was going to be simple, elegant, and stress free: there would be no bridesmaids and groomsmen, there would be only close friends and family, and there would be plenty of delicious dessert. Their wedding at the Nassau Inn, located in the heart of Princeton, New Jersey adjacent to Princeton University proved to be the perfect venue for their fall wedding.

wedding photographers often highlight the over the top elements and miss the subtle little details.

Just family and a few friends is what Kris and Alina said. 45 people people at their wedding in Princeton, NJ was the perfect recipe for a great time with their closest family members and friends. A great weekend for a wedding and a great place for a wedding. The hotel, weekend activities for guests, and the venue were all perfect.
