Timing Cherry Blossoms in New York City is a science. Having planned and captured around 3000 proposals since 2012, I can say it’s a challenge. Even looking at my archives to understand when the Chery Blossoms were blooming in Central Park last year, or the year before, or the year before doesn’t offer too much advise. The winter weather either pushes the blooms out later or earlier, and once they are hear the Cherry Blossoms can just as quickly vanish. It just varies.
For Jeff, we knew the blossoms would occur around the 10th of April or so in Central Park. And we were right. The cherry blossoms at peak, added a soft pink tone throughout our session this quiet Tuesday morning. This engagement session centered around the Bridle Path, where the cherry blossoms created a natural, seasonal backdrop. Midday light kept everything bright and even, allowing the colors to stand out without distraction.
Planning and Capturing the Session
Primary location: Bridle Path with pink cherry blossoms
Additional locations: Nearby paths and classic green Central Park benches
Time of day: Midday, with soft, consistent light
Focus: Clean, natural portraits highlighting spring in New York City
Moving between the blossoms, open paths, and benches added subtle variety while keeping a cohesive look throughout the session.
